Lukaku has already scored 316 goals in 681 senior appearances, and he remains Belgium’s all-time leading scorer. Those numbers explain why clubs continue to chase him even when his career path seems unpredictable on the surface.

The possible move is striking because it captures the strange economy of Lukaku’s career. He has rarely been viewed as a universally elegant player, but he has consistently been valued as a decisive one. Clubs may debate his fit, style, and consistency, yet they still trust his output enough to invest heavily and revisit him repeatedly.
That is why a relatively modest fee does not tell the full story. In football terms, €6 million feels small for a forward with this kind of record and this kind of track history.
